Rwanda Nyungwe Swiss Water Process Decaf
The tragedy of the Rwandan Civil War and the genocide of 1994 cannot be overstated. Over the course of around 100 days between 500,000 and 1,000,000 Tutsi and Hutu peoples were killed through systematic and organized attacks on the orders of an interim government. The total population of the country fell from nearly 6.9 million in 1990 to around 5.1 million in 1995. Out of the ashes of this conflict, coffee became a symbol of positivity, with the government taking an active role in developing high-quality coffees. This effort has continued and now Rwanda produces some of Africa's best coffees.
Tasting notes: burned caramel, chocolate, wheat bread, molasses-like sweetness.
Decaffeinated using the Swiss Water Process.
Roast Level: City+ roast is a light to medium roast. The roast is extended beyond first crack giving more time for development of the origin flavors. Despite being on the lighter end of the roast spectrum, this coffee is much darker than normal owing to the decaffeination process.
